A member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, Coco Palm’s second resort, Bodu Hithi, is located 40 minutes by speedboat from the capital Malé.
Oozing barefoot, luxury chic with traditionally Maldivian flashes, the resort is situated on a private island where sandy paths snake between the mangroves and coconut palms along with over-water wooden walkways that connect the resort. There are 100 villas, a diverse selection of contemporary restaurants and bars, a spa, as well as first-class land and water-sport facilities.
The villas either shelter under the palms by the pure white sand beach or stand on stilts over the Indian Ocean. All boast a style that incorporates modernity and hints of the traditional Maldivian way of life. Each of the villas is spacious – the four categories of accommodation range between 109 and 188 square metres – and exclusively furnished in natural, earthy tones with splashes of vivid greens and oranges injecting a tropical feel. All come complete with private pools, terraces, indulgent bathrooms, uninterrupted views of the ocean at every turn, indoor and outdoor showers as well as flat-screen TV and DVD players for in-villa entertainment. Wi-Fi connection is available across the whole island.
There are 44 Island Villas, which nestle around the island’s lush greenery. At 188 square metres with a dramatic, high pitch roof, guests walk straight in to the villa’s bathroom and a circular bathtub. Each Island Villa includes a bedroom opening out onto a terrace with private pool, deck chairs and sprawling day bed. The plush sitting area overlooks the ocean and leads on to a private terrace down to the beach.
In contrast, the 16 Water Villas and 16 Escape Water Villas, are reached via a wooden walkway and are poised over the turquoise lagoon. The Water Villas feature dark wood flooring and furnishings, a spacious bathroom complete with egg-shaped bathtub, sleek bedroom with its crisp white linen covered king-size bed and a delightful terrace. The Escape Water Villas feature an indoor day bed, designer square wooden bathtub and oblong vanity basins and a split-level terrace with immediate access to the lagoon for swimming and snorkelling.
