You do not have to own a supercar to sit behind the wheel and drive one. Across the world, car clubs offer access to some of the fastest cars ever built, but there is a problem. Car club members can usually only drive them on the road, where they will not get the most out of the supercar's precision engineering.
That problem now has a solution: race resorts. As the name suggests, these resorts allow supercars to be driven on racetracks.
Members of new club RS Academy can now learn to handle fast cars in the controlled environment of a racing circuit at the high speeds for which they were designed.
‘Race resorts offer a self-contained environment for playing around with cars on a race track. Traditional car clubs only let you take these cars on the road because of insurance processes, so you can’t drive them any faster than you would your own car. In my experience people want more than the novelty factor,’ says Robert Stanbury, managing director of RS Academy.
RS Academy is currently the only club to allow members the chance to drive supercars on the track. Using race resorts and well-known tracks around Europe, it offers members a unique driving experience, and the luxurious surrounding and service that one would expect at a five-star resort.
Along with circuits like the Nürburgring in Germany and Belgium’s Spa Francorchamps, RS Academy includes Ascari in Spain as one of its home tracks. Ascari was a pioneer of the race resort concept.
‘The track day scene in the UK is vibrant, but for a wealthier client the experience should be as much about the surroundings and the full package of a weekend with highquality accommodation. It is
about more than the cars. Our members want to be well looked after,’ says Stanbury.
‘Ascari, for instance, is like a five-star golf resort with members-only access, highquality facilities and security, but instead of a golf course at its centre there is an immaculate racing circuit.’
Unleash your potential
In grand settings like Ascari, members of RS Academy have access to some of the most exciting cars ever made. From the Caterham
R500 Superlight, which ‘corners like a housefly and feels like sitting on a bomb’ and BMW M3 CSL to the Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera or the Porsche 997 GT3 RS, the range on offer
is thrilling.
Some are designed specifically for track racing, like the Ferrari 430 Challenge, the Aston Martin Vantage GT4 on order for next year, or the stylish Vertias RS III. RS Academy offers the chance for drivers to hone their skills and unleash the full power of these design classics.

‘The academy concept is an important part of our offering, and as you go up the levels you gain access to more exotic machinery, it is entirely up to the individual how they use the club, but everyone will improve their driving. At the top end, members can qualify for racing licences if they so wish,’ says Stanbury.
‘Safety is also a major factor. Many of our instructors are local to the
tracks, so they know them like the back of their hands.’
Through the various membership options – individual, corporate, or
shared with friends – RS Academy offers a new, accessible way to
experience supercars in the environment for which they were created, all wrapped up in a five-star leisure experience.
‘Our members can drive these cars the way they were meant to be
driven,’ says Stanbury.
It is hard to see how anyone could resist such an offer.
